The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) on Microsoft Windows 2003 certification is designed for professionals who implement, manage, and troubleshoot existing network and system environments based on the Microsoft Windows® 2003 Server platform.
Candidates certified with the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) credential often work as systems administrators or technical support staff, supporting existing network infrastructures. They are not expected to design and implement new systems; this role is usually carried out by individuals certified with the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credential.
Microsoft recommend MCSA that candidates should have at least one year of experience working with a desktop operating system, a network operating system, and an existing network infrastructure, although this isn’t a prerequisite to obtaining the Microsoft® Certified Systems Administrator credential.
The Microsoft® Certified Systems Administrator credential doesn’t expire, but Microsoft release new versions of it as they upgrade their software.
Microsoft® Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) candidates on the Microsoft Windows® 2003 track are required to pass a minimum of five exams. After passing the first exam, the candidate will be certified with the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential. The five exams must include the following: Core Exams (3 Exams Required) - Networking system exams (2 exams required).
70-290 Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment
70-291 Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure - Client operating system exams (1 exam required)

Some third party exams can count as an elective. Comptia’s Security+ exam, Comptia’s A+ and Network+ exams together or Comptia’s A+ and Server+ exams together all fulfil the elective exam requirement.
A candidate certified as an MCSA or MCSE on Windows 2000 can achieve the MCSA on Windows 2003 certification by passing the following upgrade exam:
70-292 Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment for an MCSA Certified on Windows 2000
