The CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) certification is Cisco’s entry-level certification for candidates seeking a career in network design. CCDA certified professionals can design routed and switched networks involving LAN, WAN, and dial access services for businesses and organizations with networks of fewer than 100 nodes.
CCNA level knowledge is needed to prepare for the CCDA certification exam, although the CCNA exam is not a prerequisite to taking the CCDA exam.
The CCDA certification is a prerequisite for Cisco’s higher-level network design certification - the CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional).
The CCDA certification is valid for three years, during which the candidate must re-certify by passing a current CCDA exam. Exam Requirements: 640-861 Design.
This exam covers the following topics: identifying customer needs, designing the network structure, building a prototype network structure, internetworking basics, LAN protocols, bridging and switching, routed protocols, and routing protocols.
